Preview: L.A. Clippers At Dallas

When: 8:30 PM ET, Monday, April 2, 2012
Where: American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas

Clippers Vs Mavericks Tickets are still available for tonights matchup.

THE STORY: The Los Angeles Clippers are riding their longest winning streak in more than five years and will look to continue the momentum on the road. Fresh off a perfect five-game homestand that marked the team’s longest winning streak since November 2006, the Clippers will visit the defending NBA champion Dallas Mavericks on Monday. Dallas trails Los Angeles by 1½ games for fourth place in the West, but has won 10 straight at home against the Clippers.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, FS West (Clippers), FS Southwest (Mavericks)

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (31-21): The five-game streak has pulled Los Angeles within 1½ games of the Pacific Division-leading Lakers. Chris Paul had his streak of double-digit assists game snapped at four, but has averaged 21.0 points during the winning streak and has continually taken over games in the fourth quarter. Blake Griffin has bounced back from some inconsistent play earlier in the month to score at least 20 points in six consecutive games. He is averaging 22.0 points during that stretch.

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS (30-23): Dallas, playing its ninth consecutive game against a playoff contender, is finally getting healthy. Reserve guard Delonte West, seeing his first significant action since breaking a finger on Feb. 15, had 15 points and five assists in Friday’s come-from-behind victory at Orlando. “Delonte West played a massive game for us,” coach Rick Carlisle said. Center Brendan Haywood returned from a seven-game absence and made headlines after Magic coach Stan Van Gundy accused him of punching Dwight Howard in the back. Howard missed Sunday’s game against Denver with back spasms.

BUZZER BEATERS:

1. The Mavericks have won 17 of the last 19 meetings with the Clippers.

2. Los Angeles hasn’t won six straight games since March 18-31, 1992.

PREDICTION: Mavericks 99, Clippers 96

Lakers draw first and take down Mavericks

March 22nd, 2012

DALLAS – The Los Angeles Lakers expect offensive production from Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. Now they’re learning what newcomer Ramon Sessions can do.

Bryant scored 30 points, Gasol added 27 points and nine rebounds, and the Lakers stopped the Dallas Mavericks’ four-game winning streak with a 109-93 victory on Wednesday night.

Sessions contributed 17 points and nine assists in his fourth game since he was acquired in a trade with Cleveland on March 15. Sessions’ ability to penetrate into the heart of the defense led to points for himself and easy shots for teammates.

“The kid Sessions made the game easy for everybody,” Lakers coach Mike Brown said. “He had a very good all-around game. You can see how his speed can help us, his ability to … turn the corner and get into the teeth of the defense.”

Gasol said Sessions brings something fresh to the mix.

“He definitely is a point guard that creates a lot of pick-and-rolls, and gets us points in transition, too,” said Gasol, who went 13 for 16 from the field. “He gets in the lane, and he can knock down the shot himself.”

Sessions is learning the Lakers’ offense on the fly.

“(Tuesday) night was the first time I was really in the game down the stretch, and I didn’t feel I really knew the plays,” Sessions said. “I went over them today, and I feel more confident now.”

Dirk Nowitzki had 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Jason Terry scored 23 points for the defending NBA champion Mavericks, who fell to 0-3 against the Lakers this season.

The Lakers ended a two-game skid and have won six of eight overall. They were on the second leg of a back-to-back following Tuesday night’s 107-104 loss at Houston.

The Lakers broke open the game with a 24-6 spurt in the second quarter, capped by consecutive 3-pointers from Matt Barnes and Sessions for a 51-38 advantage.

Barnes and Bryant added 3-pointers during the decisive run, with the Lakers building a 57-44 halftime edge.

Los Angeles shot 57 percent (25 for 44) in the first half, led by Gasol’s 6 for 7 and Sessions’ 5 for 6.

Preview New York Knicks vs. Dallas Mavericks AAC March 6th

New York Knicks vs. Dallas Mavericks
NBA / Interleague
American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX
Tuesday, March 6th, 2012. 8:30 PM EST

Knicks Vs Mavericks Tickets are ranging from $60.00 to $774 a ticket.

Analysis of the New York Knicks
After losing both PF Amare Stoudemire and SF Carmelo Anthony for a few weeks, the Knicks have both of their superstars back and are winning games. What few people saw coming was why they’re winning, and it isn’t Stoudemire or Anthony: it’s PG Jeremy Lin. Lin has been the feel-good story of the year in the NBA because of his story, but his performance on the court shouldn’t be ignored. Outside of his high amount of turnovers, Lin has been the most efficient guard in the league over the last month. New York is 18-19 because of his efforts and may have enough momentum to nab one of the lower seeds in the Eastern Conference playoffs come May.

Analysis of the Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks, like last year, have come out and surprised many people. Even after a championship run in 2011, star PF Dirk Nowitzki was thought to regress a bit and the Mavericks as a whole were thought to be a bit too old to compete for another title. Sitting at 22-16 and 6th in the west Dallas still might be a bit behind the elite teams in their conference, though they have the experience and drive to certainly pull off a couple upsets and make some unexpected noise in the playoffs this year, just as they did a year ago.

Key Players
New York Knicks: SF Carmelo Anthony
Anthony was brought to New York last year and was expected to lead the team to the playoffs and much more. Unfortunately team chemistry has been lacking and Anthony’s presence had done little to help the Knicks. With the emergence of Lin however, the Knicks are contending again, but the key is still Anthony. He’s their leading scorer and will be the main reason the Knicks win or lose against harder teams like the Mavs. If he puts up 25-30 points New York will have a good shot at getting the W.

Dallas Mavericks: PG Jason Kidd
The veteran Kidd will be relied on to shut down the newcomer Lin on Tuesday night. Lin is turnover-prone and Kidd plays fantastic defense, so if Kidd can get 3-4 steals off of him and convert them into assists or points, the Mavericks will be looking good. Kidd doesn’t score a lot and has been a bit of a disappointment this season so far though, so he’ll have to improve his play if that’s going to happen.

Key Statistics
Free Throw Attempts:
New York’s style of play, scoring a lot of points and driving to the basket as much as possible, lends itself to getting to the charity stripe more often than not. The Knicks get to the line 25.4 times every night, while the Mavericks more halfcourt style of play only nets them 20.9 free throws every game. If the Knicks can convert that spread of 4 free throws they’ll have a bit of an edge, something that they’ll absolutely need going into the tough American Airlines Center.

Prediction
This should be a very entertaining matchup. Neither of these squads are members of the elite class this year in the NBA, but neither is average or below that either. Really, either of these squads could win this game by 15+ or it could go down to the wire; the only thing that matters is who comes to play on Tuesday night. The Mavericks haven’t been playing well lately, losing 5 of their last 7, and at the end of the day I think that will carry over to Tuesday’s performance.

Prediction = New York Knicks: 102 – Dallas Mavericks: 92

American Airlines Center

The American Airlines Center (commonly AAC) is a multi-purpose arena, located in the Victory Park neighborhood, near downtown Dallas, Texas.

It is home to the Dallas Mavericks of the NBA, and the Dallas Stars of the NHL.

The arena is also used for concerts and other live entertainment.

Although referencing the arena as “The House that Dirk Built,” in honor of Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki, has recently become popular due to the success of the Mavericks, the arena could more appropriately be called “The House that Mike Built,” in reference to Dallas Stars legend Mike Modano, since it was the Stars’ late 1990′s Stanley Cup runs and growth of hockey in the area that spurred plans for the construction of a new arena.

Recap Utah Jazz vs Dallas Mavericks (102-96)

Jazz Vs Mavericks

Attendance – 20560

Nowitzki scores a season-high 40 points and  Utah Jazz was “beaten” by Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center on Saturday night.

Dirk Nowitzki scored 10 points in the fourth quarter as the Mavericks turned away a late rally by the Jazz, who sliced a 23-point deficit down to five points.

Dallas forward Lamar Odom played for the first time after missing four games because of a family matter and personal reasons.

Odom was supposed to play Saturday night in the NBA Development League. Instead, he was recalled to play against the Jazz and scored nine points in 18 minutes.

Paul Millsap scored 24 points and Derrick Favors added 14 points for Utah, which beat the Miami Heat 99-98 on Friday night.

Jason Terry scored 22 points as the Mavericks won the first time since Feb. 20.

Dallas had been in an offensive slump before Saturday night. The Mavs had averaged less than 90 points over their last seven games.

Nowitzki responded by making his first three shots of the game and scoring 13 in a row at one point during the second quarter. He finished 14 for 21 from the floor and 9 for 10 from the line.

Nowitzki’s previous season high was 34 points against the New York Knicks on Feb. 19.

The Jazz outscored the Mavericks 41-28 in the fourth quarter and went on a 24-8 run to cut Dallas’ lead to 93-88 with 1:41 left.

Terry answered with a layup and Nowitzki hit four free throws to help Dallas push ahead 99-90 with 19.4 seconds left.

CJ Miles scored 13 points and Al Jefferson had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Jazz, who have lost seven in a row to the Mavericks.

Utah was down 53-47 in the third quarter when Dallas broke the game open.

Nowitzki sparked a 21-8 run by banking in an off-balance 3-pointer. The 2011 NBA finals MVP then hit another from long distance to stretch the lead to 12.

Odom drove for a layup and made a 3-pointer from the corner to put Dallas on top 69-55, and Terry scored the final five points of the third quarter.

Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said before the game that Odom joined the team sooner than expected because the team needed another healthy player during a rugged stretch where it plays nine games in 12 days.

Raja Bell missed his sixth straight game, and Brandan Wright did not play too. Carlisle said Wright is day to day and there is no timetable for his return.

Odom had been set to play for the Texas Legends on Saturday night. He entered with 7:36 left in the first quarter to an ovation from the home fans.

HORNETS 97, MAVERICKS 92: Chris Kaman continued to improve his trade value with 20 points and 13 rebounds as host New Orleans ended its most recent slide at two games and handed slumping Dallas its fourth straight setback.

Xavier Henry added 19 points off the bench and Jarrett Jack came through late for the Hornets, who had dropped three straight to the Mavericks.

Dallas is averaging 90 points during its four-game slide.

The Hornets built an 82-70 lead with 9:15 left in the fourth but went the next 5:10 without a point as the Mavericks crept back into the game.

Dallas cut it to a basket, 82-80, on Rodrigue Beaubois’ three-point play before New Orleans responded. Solomon Jones connected on an 18-foot jumper and Xavier Henry picked off Dirk Nowitzki’s pass, taking it the other way for a transition dunk.

Nowitzki’s 3-pointer and a transition layup by Beaubois cut it back to 91-89 but four points from Jack in the final 17 seconds sealed it for the Hornets.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Beaubois led the Mavericks with 25 points … New Orleans dominated the glass, 50-34 … Dallas has not reached 100 points in seven consecutive games … Nowitzki, who was hobbled by a lower back strain in his last game, scored 19 points in 36 minutes on Friday.

The Mavericks play the Utah Jazz today at 7:30 pm, great seats are still available for the Jazz Vs Mavericks.
